| March 25, 2003 - It's been a few months since our last Hospital Happening...that's why the Boyds Stuff for Starlight volunteers thought it was time to hit the road and head to Hershey Medical Center/Penn State Children's Hospital for another fun and exciting craft with the kids.
We decided to usher in Spring by helping the children make their very own baby food jar gardens (perfect for making a hospital room more colorful!). The children rolled out a small piece of playdough and placed it in the lid of the baby food jar. In the playdough they placed flowers that we bought or ones we helped them make out of tissue paper and pipe cleaners. Once they had their gardens "planted" we placed the jar over the flowers (yes, the baby food jar is now upside down-luckily there was no food left in them!) and voila…their very own garden to look at everyday. Even those with black thumbs (like me) couldn't go wrong with this craft! After a long hard day of gardening it was time for a lil' fun…some good ol' fashioned BLOOM (aka BINGO). But, keeping with the Spring theme we titled this game BLOOM! Each child ended up winning a prize from our bear stash, so no matter win or lose, each child was a winner in our eyes! Our volunteers are looking forward to another event in April with children at Rolling Acres Elementary School in the Littlestown School District (close to company headquarters!). Check back to learn all about our adventure there!
