On September 22 at 4 p.m., patients at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Boston, Massachusetts, beheld a wondrous sight--an ocean of color and fun inside a hospital! Wazdat? Bruins' stars and Boyds' VP of Marketing David Miller unveiled the hospital's new "Great Barrier Reef" themed Starlight site. The open, airy, and child-friendly space for patients and their families has taken on a tropical look with the use of color, lighting, texture, display panels, and tons of cuddly Boyds plush! The newly renovated outpatient waiting room is sponsored by the Folks at Boyds, the Boston Bruins and their wives, and the Starlight Children's Foundation. And a big thanks goes to Drummey Rosane Anderson, Inc. (DRA), which donated design and architectural services.
The 2,635-square-foot, state-of-the-art lounge is a refreshing environment designed to help ease the boredom, restlessness, and anxiety often experienced by children awaiting medical visits. The new waiting room is a multi-functional space that includes areas for reading, game playing, and viewing of movies and television programs.
Why'd the Folks at Boyds and Starlight choose the Franciscan Hospital? 'Cause it's New England's largest pediatric rehabilitation hospital and offers the most comprehensive continuum of services for children with special health care needs in the country and most likely the world! This not-for-profit health care system offers inpatient, residential, educational, surgical, outpatient, and home care programs for kidz. Sponsored by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, the hospital is a ffiliated with Harvard Medical School, Tufts University, Boston University and its Goldman School of Dental Medicine, and works in conjunction with all major medical centers in New England in offering state-of-the-art pediatric services. Wowza! To fund the wonderful services the Franciscan Hospital provides, the organization depends on donations and fundraising. A major renovation project, like the Great Barrier Reef, cannot happen without outside help. And that's when businesses like Boyds are glad to pitch in!
The Folks at Boyds were thrilled to be a part of this exciting process and hope that our efforts will brighten the lives of children throughout the Boston area!
